[00:00:09.12 --> 00:00:16.20] Hello everyone welcome to the very
[00:00:12.48 --> 00:00:19.20] first episode of VAMK Academic Adventures
[00:00:16.20 --> 00:00:21.76] I'm K, your host who is also a second
[00:00:19.20 --> 00:00:24.00] international business student at Vaasa
[00:00:21.76 --> 00:00:26.04] University of applied sciences and
[00:00:24.00 --> 00:00:28.56] currently working as an international
[00:00:26.04 --> 00:00:31.40] marketing trainee at fun marketing
[00:00:28.56 --> 00:00:34.36] department. In academic podcast
[00:00:31.40 --> 00:00:36.16] Adventures we will be talking uh And
[00:00:34.36 --> 00:00:38.60] discussing with our personnel and
[00:00:36.16 --> 00:00:40.52] students and exchanging our opinions
[00:00:38.60 --> 00:00:44.12] about different matters on the student
[00:00:40.52 --> 00:00:46.68] life and career opportunities and so on
[00:00:44.12 --> 00:00:49.72] in this first episode we'll have Francis
[00:00:46.68 --> 00:00:51.48] who is our talent coach together with us
[00:00:49.72 --> 00:00:53.44] uh as I've just introduced just a little
[00:00:51.48 --> 00:00:55.84] bit about yourself could you start
[00:00:53.44 --> 00:00:58.60] introducing yourself a little bit more
[00:00:55.84 --> 00:01:01.40] how much time do you have oh yeah I know
[00:00:58.60 --> 00:01:03.64] you can go really long
[00:01:01.40 --> 00:01:07.80] oh well anyway my name is Francis
[00:01:03.64 --> 00:01:11.96] originally from Ghana I lived here Vaasa
[00:01:07.80 --> 00:01:14.64] for I think this year two decades so um
[00:01:11.96 --> 00:01:17.12] I've done all sort of jobs and uh I
[00:01:14.64 --> 00:01:18.32] thought um putting all those experience
[00:01:17.12 --> 00:01:21.60] together and sharing it with the
[00:01:18.32 --> 00:01:25.84] international will be a good opportunity
[00:01:21.60 --> 00:01:27.52] so this is why I to take on this role to
[00:01:25.84 --> 00:01:30.80] be able to support the Internationals
[00:01:27.52 --> 00:01:32.92] and help them become a
[00:01:30.80 --> 00:01:36.60] something good or something great in in
[00:01:32.92 --> 00:01:38.96] Finland yes yes yes nice to meet you
[00:01:36.60 --> 00:01:41.56] nice to meet you even though we've
[00:01:38.96 --> 00:01:45.80] met well it's always good to say nice to
[00:01:41.56 --> 00:01:47.68] meet you yes okay so yeah since um
[00:01:45.80 --> 00:01:49.88] you've been here living like two decades
[00:01:47.68 --> 00:01:53.04] and I know that you have also graduated
[00:01:49.88 --> 00:01:55.96] from VAMK so can you tell us a little bit
[00:01:53.04 --> 00:01:58.56] about how what is the unique thing about
[00:01:55.96 --> 00:02:01.88] bunk like since your studies time and
[00:01:58.56 --> 00:02:04.80] also now during this period as well I
[00:02:01.88 --> 00:02:09.64] think VAMK is a wonderful institution
[00:02:04.80 --> 00:02:12.56] due to the diverse um pool of teachers
[00:02:09.64 --> 00:02:14.84] from both International and in Finnish
[00:02:12.56 --> 00:02:19.12] uh not only that also I mean we are
[00:02:14.84 --> 00:02:21.40] located in the energy cluster of U finan
[00:02:19.12 --> 00:02:24.20] and not just Finland in the Nordic so
[00:02:21.40 --> 00:02:26.08] there's more energy companies here when
[00:02:24.20 --> 00:02:28.88] compared to any part of the Nordic
[00:02:26.08 --> 00:02:32.76] country so that's also a good um
[00:02:28.88 --> 00:02:35.88] opportunity also we also have this um
[00:02:32.76 --> 00:02:39.60] wonderful lab technobot which is one of
[00:02:35.88 --> 00:02:42.48] the best labs in the in Europe so I mean
[00:02:39.60 --> 00:02:46.16] when you look at it it's why not study
[00:02:42.48 --> 00:02:51.04] at VAMK and more importantly Vaasa is made up
[00:02:46.16 --> 00:02:53.80] of um six um universities two vocational
[00:02:51.04 --> 00:02:57.68] schools so the student life here is
[00:02:53.80 --> 00:03:01.20] absolutely wonderful so it's it's a
[00:02:57.68 --> 00:03:03.96] place to be I would say yes I I totally
[00:03:01.20 --> 00:03:06.44] agree with that because uh now that I've
[00:03:03.96 --> 00:03:08.64] come I've come from Myanmar and the
[00:03:06.44 --> 00:03:10.68] cities are I've come from and here is
[00:03:08.64 --> 00:03:13.64] very different but only now that I come
[00:03:10.68 --> 00:03:16.40] here I know how Vasa has a lot of energy
[00:03:13.64 --> 00:03:20.00] and how sustainable the region is trying
[00:03:16.40 --> 00:03:22.72] and also how vun is one part in making
[00:03:20.00 --> 00:03:25.36] the industry more uh sustainable and
[00:03:22.72 --> 00:03:28.52] more uh developed as well so I really
[00:03:25.36 --> 00:03:31.60] agree with that yeah so since uh we have
[00:03:28.52 --> 00:03:35.24] like um the whole Plaza area and fun is
[00:03:31.60 --> 00:03:37.76] also really uh recommendable but how uh
[00:03:35.24 --> 00:03:40.44] how can you say in terms of fun only
[00:03:37.76 --> 00:03:43.76] like what kind of resources is are they
[00:03:40.44 --> 00:03:46.36] available for the international students
[00:03:43.76 --> 00:03:49.88] especially coming from uh outside of
[00:03:46.36 --> 00:03:53.84] Finland uh to be honest with you I've
[00:03:49.88 --> 00:03:59.56] studied in uh I would say four out of
[00:03:53.84 --> 00:04:02.00] the six universities wow so um VAMK has
[00:03:59.56 --> 00:04:05.72] some something unique first VAMK has
[00:04:02.00 --> 00:04:08.64] someone like me you know to help and
[00:04:05.72 --> 00:04:10.92] help the international students so I
[00:04:08.64 --> 00:04:13.00] think that's something unique that uh
[00:04:10.92 --> 00:04:16.44] someone that has lived here worked here
[00:04:13.00 --> 00:04:19.76] done a lot here and is very intertwined
[00:04:16.44 --> 00:04:22.72] with the society so having this kind of
[00:04:19.76 --> 00:04:27.36] person at van I think gives van a good
[00:04:22.72 --> 00:04:30.28] value for the international student um
[00:04:27.36 --> 00:04:33.16] not just me also VAMK also has a quite
[00:04:30.28 --> 00:04:35.76] a lot lots of international teachers as
[00:04:33.16 --> 00:04:37.88] I said earlier on that also comes from
[00:04:35.76 --> 00:04:40.28] diverse background from Middle East from
[00:04:37.88 --> 00:04:44.64] Africa from all over the place and I
[00:04:40.28 --> 00:04:46.88] think this had an extra layer on top to
[00:04:44.64 --> 00:04:48.04] create that level of understanding
[00:04:46.88 --> 00:04:50.20] because you know most of these
[00:04:48.04 --> 00:04:53.32] Internationals coming from outside
[00:04:50.20 --> 00:04:54.88] coming in um they want to be in a place
[00:04:53.32 --> 00:04:56.52] where they feel like they are part of
[00:04:54.88 --> 00:04:59.72] the community or they are part of the
[00:04:56.52 --> 00:05:02.64] society and I think this is what VAMK is
[00:04:59.72 --> 00:05:05.68] able to offer them we have a state ofthe
[00:05:02.64 --> 00:05:10.12] actart um classrooms well equipped with
[00:05:05.68 --> 00:05:12.48] various um um tools that the student can
[00:05:10.12 --> 00:05:15.76] use to better their learning and and
[00:05:12.48 --> 00:05:18.16] study so and also the layout of the our
[00:05:15.76 --> 00:05:21.16] campuses wonderful bright colors which
[00:05:18.16 --> 00:05:23.20] gives you this warmth feeling yes that
[00:05:21.16 --> 00:05:27.20] you know you don't see that in the other
[00:05:23.20 --> 00:05:29.72] um universities and so I think uh
[00:05:27.20 --> 00:05:33.08] choosing Bank you have a back for your
[00:05:29.72 --> 00:05:35.00] for your money so yes I think uh now I'm
[00:05:33.08 --> 00:05:37.96] in the second year so maybe a little bit
[00:05:35.00 --> 00:05:39.48] still early to say but I think so far it
[00:05:37.96 --> 00:05:41.84] has been a really great journey for
[00:05:39.48 --> 00:05:45.24] example in the first year we have like
[00:05:41.84 --> 00:05:47.64] Francis uh you like Talent uh coach that
[00:05:45.24 --> 00:05:50.48] guide us with our CV and then cover
[00:05:47.64 --> 00:05:52.44] letters so uh a lot of us do don't have
[00:05:50.48 --> 00:05:54.60] like work experiences before and don't
[00:05:52.44 --> 00:05:56.32] know how and especially coming from
[00:05:54.60 --> 00:05:59.04] different countries the work
[00:05:56.32 --> 00:06:00.32] applications processes are completely
[00:05:59.04 --> 00:06:02.44] different
[00:06:00.32 --> 00:06:05.52] exactly that's absolutely true and don't
[00:06:02.44 --> 00:06:08.48] forget our weekly coffee dates yes
[00:06:05.52 --> 00:06:11.92] exactly have a date with my students or
[00:06:08.48 --> 00:06:14.60] our students to to discuss no topic is
[00:06:11.92 --> 00:06:17.28] of bond so when you have something going
[00:06:14.60 --> 00:06:21.24] on you feel that need to share or to
[00:06:17.28 --> 00:06:24.08] talk to someone we also have um good um
[00:06:21.24 --> 00:06:26.04] social worker papy so we have different
[00:06:24.08 --> 00:06:29.04] resources when it comes to mental health
[00:06:26.04 --> 00:06:32.44] and and career and um almost we've
[00:06:29.04 --> 00:06:34.08] covered all the areas so agree because
[00:06:32.44 --> 00:06:36.32] like just like I mentioned we get
[00:06:34.08 --> 00:06:38.16] prepared for the career even from the
[00:06:36.32 --> 00:06:40.44] first year already like there a lot of
[00:06:38.16 --> 00:06:41.96] workshops that you have done and also
[00:06:40.44 --> 00:06:44.92] with guest speakers from all the
[00:06:41.96 --> 00:06:46.84] companies and moreover like now I'm also
[00:06:44.92 --> 00:06:48.88] part of the mentoring program like the
[00:06:46.84 --> 00:06:52.28] energy Academy that it collaborates with
[00:06:48.88 --> 00:06:53.88] all the companies in the Vaasa region so
[00:06:52.28 --> 00:06:56.16] there's a lot of supportive system and
[00:06:53.88 --> 00:06:58.12] not just for work like you mentioned
[00:06:56.16 --> 00:06:59.92] also for personal life as personal life
[00:06:58.12 --> 00:07:02.08] as well if you have some difficult that
[00:06:59.92 --> 00:07:04.76] you don't want to share there's also our
[00:07:02.08 --> 00:07:08.00] puy and an and then also of course the
[00:07:04.76 --> 00:07:10.48] curators so we can and even for the
[00:07:08.00 --> 00:07:12.44] studies we can plan and choose how yes
[00:07:10.48 --> 00:07:15.32] we have the career counselors also
[00:07:12.44 --> 00:07:18.88] available uh
[00:07:15.32 --> 00:07:20.84] study also who's also helping with the
[00:07:18.88 --> 00:07:24.32] with the counseling as well so there is
[00:07:20.84 --> 00:07:27.52] a lot of resources yes so far I haven't
[00:07:24.32 --> 00:07:30.44] been bored like if the main important
[00:07:27.52 --> 00:07:33.72] thing is that we just have to
[00:07:30.44 --> 00:07:35.64] and try to uh make use of these
[00:07:33.72 --> 00:07:37.64] opportunities and the resources
[00:07:35.64 --> 00:07:40.12] available because there's a lot already
[00:07:37.64 --> 00:07:43.08] like even if you get stuck with thesis
[00:07:40.12 --> 00:07:45.60] there's also thesis support like weekly
[00:07:43.08 --> 00:07:48.64] and even for Stress Management so so
[00:07:45.60 --> 00:07:51.64] many things happen so many things yeah
[00:07:48.64 --> 00:07:53.48] and now I'm also a student and also of
[00:07:51.64 --> 00:07:56.48] course there are more International
[00:07:53.48 --> 00:07:58.88] students coming to Vaasa and Finland uh
[00:07:56.48 --> 00:08:00.92] like I I'm I'm of course I'm I'm now
[00:07:58.88 --> 00:08:02.84] working as a trainee in VAMK but I don't
[00:08:00.92 --> 00:08:05.28] know that much about the job market
[00:08:02.84 --> 00:08:09.36] opportunity so I think you've been
[00:08:05.28 --> 00:08:11.52] really familiar so you can you know
[00:08:09.36 --> 00:08:13.88] maybe like give me some opinions we just
[00:08:11.52 --> 00:08:16.88] have to I try to be as honest as
[00:08:13.88 --> 00:08:21.08] possible there are um I think last time
[00:08:16.88 --> 00:08:23.56] I check um from the Duunitori the which is the
[00:08:21.08 --> 00:08:27.20] unemployment of this website is at least
[00:08:23.56 --> 00:08:30.36] currently more than 500 jobs in
[00:08:27.20 --> 00:08:32.72] Vaasa uh so there are opportunities
[00:08:30.36 --> 00:08:34.84] available and the fact is some of the
[00:08:32.72 --> 00:08:37.36] job openings are actually not made
[00:08:34.84 --> 00:08:39.24] public as well so it's also word of
[00:08:37.36 --> 00:08:42.24] month so this is where what you said
[00:08:39.24 --> 00:08:44.08] earlier on The Social Network the social
[00:08:42.24 --> 00:08:45.80] contact is very very very extremely
[00:08:44.08 --> 00:08:47.80] important that you put yourself out
[00:08:45.80 --> 00:08:49.52] there because most of the job actually
[00:08:47.80 --> 00:08:51.80] they don't make it public it's Word of
[00:08:49.52 --> 00:08:54.40] Mouth "hey do you know this person yes I
[00:08:51.80 --> 00:08:56.12] have this friend we go to football
[00:08:54.40 --> 00:08:58.48] together or we go to dance classes
[00:08:56.12 --> 00:09:00.80] together or we do something together" so
[00:08:58.48 --> 00:09:02.96] I can recommend so so that's is
[00:09:00.80 --> 00:09:06.00] important uh the current economic
[00:09:02.96 --> 00:09:08.64] situation in Finland is um this kind of
[00:09:06.00 --> 00:09:11.20] lukewarm um in the sense that um
[00:09:08.64 --> 00:09:14.16] recently there's been some big companies
[00:09:11.20 --> 00:09:16.96] that you know they've they've gone
[00:09:14.16 --> 00:09:20.84] bankrupt so that's shaking job market in
[00:09:16.96 --> 00:09:23.48] aot a little bit however um we are
[00:09:20.84 --> 00:09:25.88] approaching and we can already see
[00:09:23.48 --> 00:09:29.64] that there's a lot of companies actually
[00:09:25.88 --> 00:09:33.32] hiring students as a traine so we have
[00:09:29.64 --> 00:09:34.40] ABB Wärtsilä and many other um many other
[00:09:33.32 --> 00:09:37.68] companies.
[00:09:34.40 --> 00:09:40.44] so respective that the market still is
[00:09:37.68 --> 00:09:42.88] lukewarm in the sense that some big
[00:09:40.44 --> 00:09:45.04] companies have going under these other
[00:09:42.88 --> 00:09:49.44] big companies are taking the opportunity
[00:09:45.04 --> 00:09:52.44] to provide a more um place for them to
[00:09:49.44 --> 00:09:54.24] be able to to to to work especially the
[00:09:52.44 --> 00:09:56.48] students
[00:09:54.24 --> 00:09:59.00] so it
[00:09:56.48 --> 00:10:01.32] is half and half but I think the most
[00:09:59.00 --> 00:10:04.16] important is um as a student what you
[00:10:01.32 --> 00:10:06.40] need to do is to be proactive which is
[00:10:04.16 --> 00:10:08.92] very very important you cannot just sit
[00:10:06.40 --> 00:10:11.12] at home and sens and hope that things
[00:10:08.92 --> 00:10:13.88] will work out you need to be proactive
[00:10:11.12 --> 00:10:16.48] you know be part of the society be part
[00:10:13.88 --> 00:10:18.24] of the community let people see you let
[00:10:16.48 --> 00:10:21.88] people know you um one of the
[00:10:18.24 --> 00:10:24.24] fundamental qualities of feeling is um
[00:10:21.88 --> 00:10:26.32] the use of the word trust that people
[00:10:24.24 --> 00:10:28.64] need to know you and trust you before
[00:10:26.32 --> 00:10:30.80] the the opportunity and the only way
[00:10:28.64 --> 00:10:33.76] they can trust you or know you is by
[00:10:30.80 --> 00:10:36.48] engaging in various activities with them
[00:10:33.76 --> 00:10:39.68] in the public volunteering for example
[00:10:36.48 --> 00:10:42.84] also does help so there are ways that
[00:10:39.68 --> 00:10:45.16] you can do but to be honest there are
[00:10:42.84 --> 00:10:48.80] opportunity there are opportunities yes
[00:10:45.16 --> 00:10:50.20] definitely um I I can I think like now
[00:10:48.80 --> 00:10:53.12] that you've mentioned I've also
[00:10:50.20 --> 00:10:56.00] reflecting on myself in these two years
[00:10:53.12 --> 00:10:57.92] that I have studied and uh like for
[00:10:56.00 --> 00:11:00.00] example even though of course I want to
[00:10:57.92 --> 00:11:01.92] have a training or job position
[00:11:00.00 --> 00:11:04.96] I try to stay active first you have
[00:11:01.92 --> 00:11:07.52] mentioned like be proactive and and also
[00:11:04.96 --> 00:11:09.80] so I not just focusing on the job but
[00:11:07.52 --> 00:11:11.56] volunteering and even just be part of
[00:11:09.80 --> 00:11:14.04] the community like for example I was
[00:11:11.56 --> 00:11:17.72] part of the student ambassador for fun
[00:11:14.04 --> 00:11:20.32] and make contents uh for this so and by
[00:11:17.72 --> 00:11:22.00] talking to the classmates then they know
[00:11:20.32 --> 00:11:23.68] like oh you can do this you can do that
[00:11:22.00 --> 00:11:26.28] and they can recommend each other for
[00:11:23.68 --> 00:11:27.96] the student ambassador position so now
[00:11:26.28 --> 00:11:29.84] that I'm creating some contents as a
[00:11:27.96 --> 00:11:32.68] student ambassador and which now also
[00:11:29.84 --> 00:11:34.60] leads me to have a training in the
[00:11:32.68 --> 00:11:36.76] marketing department so and that can
[00:11:34.60 --> 00:11:37.60] also lead to a full-time job don't
[00:11:36.76 --> 00:11:40.92] forget
[00:11:37.60 --> 00:11:43.56] that fingers crossed no it will it will
[00:11:40.92 --> 00:11:45.28] I mean I've seen how um how active you
[00:11:43.56 --> 00:11:48.48] are and I think you are doing everything
[00:11:45.28 --> 00:11:50.80] to the text book you know all the theory
[00:11:48.48 --> 00:11:52.68] everything that we've said I can see you
[00:11:50.80 --> 00:11:55.32] implementing them and this is why you
[00:11:52.68 --> 00:11:57.04] yourself have acknowledged the your
[00:11:55.32 --> 00:11:59.64] progress just two years and see where
[00:11:57.04 --> 00:12:03.00] you've been so I only hope that the
[00:11:59.64 --> 00:12:06.40] other student will you know take a a
[00:12:03.00 --> 00:12:07.92] snapshot of this and apply that to their
[00:12:06.40 --> 00:12:10.88] life and I think things will be
[00:12:07.92 --> 00:12:12.60] completely different for them as well so
[00:12:10.88 --> 00:12:14.64] yeah yeah that's true and of course
[00:12:12.60 --> 00:12:16.52] depending on the cultures it might be
[00:12:14.64 --> 00:12:18.60] difficult to adapt but like you always
[00:12:16.52 --> 00:12:21.40] said I remember like when you're in
[00:12:18.60 --> 00:12:23.56] Finland you have to adapt to how things
[00:12:21.40 --> 00:12:25.08] me when the famous thing is that when
[00:12:23.56 --> 00:12:27.96] you're in Rome you have to behave like
[00:12:25.08 --> 00:12:29.72] the Roman if you're in Finland you need
[00:12:27.96 --> 00:12:31.96] to study how the things
[00:12:29.72 --> 00:12:35.04] how they talk how they react and and
[00:12:31.96 --> 00:12:37.44] just adapt to that yes definitely and
[00:12:35.04 --> 00:12:39.76] also don't lose Yourself you always it
[00:12:37.44 --> 00:12:41.68] is possible that you have I mean this is
[00:12:39.76 --> 00:12:43.76] why I like the word adaptation for
[00:12:41.68 --> 00:12:46.28] instance when you when you look at the
[00:12:43.76 --> 00:12:48.32] the chameleon it doesn't change the
[00:12:46.28 --> 00:12:51.12] shape of his head the hand or nothing it
[00:12:48.32 --> 00:12:53.48] just change the skin color to adapt the
[00:12:51.12 --> 00:12:56.72] environment and it means that the
[00:12:53.48 --> 00:12:59.76] cavalon has its own self it hasn't lost
[00:12:56.72 --> 00:13:03.28] that part of but just for surv
[00:12:59.76 --> 00:13:05.16] and and he has to do something to to to
[00:13:03.28 --> 00:13:06.80] be able to get food and so as an
[00:13:05.16 --> 00:13:09.40] international student you cannot afford
[00:13:06.80 --> 00:13:11.64] that in my culture yes I don't drink
[00:13:09.40 --> 00:13:13.00] alcohol but yes we understand no one is
[00:13:11.64 --> 00:13:15.16] forcing you to drink alcohol but that
[00:13:13.00 --> 00:13:18.40] doesn't mean that you cannot socialize
[00:13:15.16 --> 00:13:21.12] as well so it's a way of how you look at
[00:13:18.40 --> 00:13:24.36] things you know don't be narrow-minded
[00:13:21.12 --> 00:13:27.76] but have a much more broader perspective
[00:13:24.36 --> 00:13:29.68] on life and and then culture meeting
[00:13:27.76 --> 00:13:31.60] other people you end up learning quite a
[00:13:29.68 --> 00:13:33.92] lot and that can also help you and they
[00:13:31.60 --> 00:13:36.36] also learn a lot from you as well so
[00:13:33.92 --> 00:13:39.00] it's a two-way thing so I definitely
[00:13:36.36 --> 00:13:42.20] agree and I'm trying to do as much as I
[00:13:39.00 --> 00:13:43.68] can as well and socializing and
[00:13:42.20 --> 00:13:45.64] sometimes it's also good to also take
[00:13:43.68 --> 00:13:47.60] time for yourself yes go in your own
[00:13:45.64 --> 00:13:50.00] bubble and that's true that's true and
[00:13:47.60 --> 00:13:52.40] and recharge your battery and and stuff
[00:13:50.00 --> 00:13:54.32] so yeah that's true very important it's
[00:13:52.40 --> 00:13:56.72] really good cuz now we also have the gym
[00:13:54.32 --> 00:13:59.16] here and we have some opportunities to
[00:13:56.72 --> 00:14:02.68] relax like yoga session so that also
[00:13:59.16 --> 00:14:05.20] really relaxes a lot for me yeah so like
[00:14:02.68 --> 00:14:07.12] you said I try to remind myself and make
[00:14:05.20 --> 00:14:10.20] use of all the opportunities not just
[00:14:07.12 --> 00:14:12.80] for job but also also for also for
[00:14:10.20 --> 00:14:14.52] resting Health eating well and all those
[00:14:12.80 --> 00:14:17.84] kind of things they are equally
[00:14:14.52 --> 00:14:20.48] extremely important yes definitely yes
[00:14:17.84 --> 00:14:22.56] but uh I think we also covered about the
[00:14:20.48 --> 00:14:24.12] like the proactiveness like the main
[00:14:22.56 --> 00:14:25.92] skills but do you think what other
[00:14:24.12 --> 00:14:29.24] skills do you think that are necessary
[00:14:25.92 --> 00:14:32.48] for international students who want to
[00:14:29.24 --> 00:14:35.16] seek job opportunities of course we a
[00:14:32.48 --> 00:14:38.24] lot yeah I would to be honest I won't
[00:14:35.16 --> 00:14:41.32] say skill but what I would say is that
[00:14:38.24 --> 00:14:44.44] um due to the cultural background where
[00:14:41.32 --> 00:14:46.08] we come from um a lot of us also don't
[00:14:44.44 --> 00:14:48.76] know who we
[00:14:46.08 --> 00:14:50.68] are you know and I think it's extremely
[00:14:48.76 --> 00:14:52.72] important for you to also take the time
[00:14:50.68 --> 00:14:56.08] to figure out who you are what you like
[00:14:52.72 --> 00:14:57.20] what you don't like uh because the funny
[00:14:56.08 --> 00:14:58.60] thing is that one of the most
[00:14:57.20 --> 00:15:01.36] fundamental question they will ask you
[00:14:58.60 --> 00:15:03.88] during the interview hey tell me a bit
[00:15:01.36 --> 00:15:08.48] about yourself and
[00:15:03.88 --> 00:15:10.16] then yeah so being able to take the time
[00:15:08.48 --> 00:15:12.68] and understand who you are what makes
[00:15:10.16 --> 00:15:14.12] you happy what makes you sad what takes
[00:15:12.68 --> 00:15:16.44] you
[00:15:14.12 --> 00:15:18.80] what you know affect your emotion
[00:15:16.44 --> 00:15:22.32] negatively and what affect your emotion
[00:15:18.80 --> 00:15:25.08] positively is equally um important
[00:15:22.32 --> 00:15:26.80] because once you understand this when
[00:15:25.08 --> 00:15:29.24] you even get the job then it's much
[00:15:26.80 --> 00:15:31.32] easier for you to you know coexist with
[00:15:29.24 --> 00:15:33.72] people you know what are your triggers
[00:15:31.32 --> 00:15:35.92] or once somebody's doing that you know
[00:15:33.72 --> 00:15:39.36] how to manage it so that you don't come
[00:15:35.92 --> 00:15:41.64] out in or speak in a way that people
[00:15:39.36 --> 00:15:44.68] will read a negative meaning to it you
[00:15:41.64 --> 00:15:47.72] know how to comport yourself so I think
[00:15:44.68 --> 00:15:49.88] um I would say for me personally this is
[00:15:47.72 --> 00:15:51.40] something that has actually helped me
[00:15:49.88 --> 00:15:55.08] been living here quite a long it took me
[00:15:51.40 --> 00:15:57.60] a while to really understand this at me
[00:15:55.08 --> 00:16:01.32] being able to understand why do I react
[00:15:57.60 --> 00:16:03.04] certain ways what makes me kind of show
[00:16:01.32 --> 00:16:05.60] this kind of emotion or that kind of
[00:16:03.04 --> 00:16:09.08] emotion has really really helped me and
[00:16:05.60 --> 00:16:12.68] it's also helped you um to to
[00:16:09.08 --> 00:16:15.48] control who you are when things happen
[00:16:12.68 --> 00:16:17.88] um the other skills that is connected to
[00:16:15.48 --> 00:16:19.40] this is uh this emotional intelligence
[00:16:17.88 --> 00:16:22.96] the ability for you to control your
[00:16:19.40 --> 00:16:24.36] emotion while at the same time observing
[00:16:22.96 --> 00:16:26.76] people and also controlling their
[00:16:24.36 --> 00:16:29.20] emotion I think this is also equally
[00:16:26.76 --> 00:16:32.12] important and before you can actually
[00:16:29.20 --> 00:16:35.96] have this emotional intelligence as a as
[00:16:32.12 --> 00:16:38.00] a as a competence or as a as a skill set
[00:16:35.96 --> 00:16:41.52] you need to also first find
[00:16:38.00 --> 00:16:43.56] yourself to know yourself yes by doing
[00:16:41.52 --> 00:16:47.08] that this help you to also understand
[00:16:43.56 --> 00:16:49.28] others so um and this is something a lot
[00:16:47.08 --> 00:16:52.12] of Internationals sometime they don't
[00:16:49.28 --> 00:16:53.52] they don't take the time to to do
[00:16:52.12 --> 00:16:56.12] because we come from a collective
[00:16:53.52 --> 00:16:58.32] Society whereas in Finland we are in a
[00:16:56.12 --> 00:17:00.92] individualistic Society according to the
[00:16:58.32 --> 00:17:02.80] hosted I menion so this is very
[00:17:00.92 --> 00:17:04.40] important that okay now I'm coming to an
[00:17:02.80 --> 00:17:06.08] individualistic societ let me take
[00:17:04.40 --> 00:17:09.56] advantage of it let me use the
[00:17:06.08 --> 00:17:12.08] opportunity to find myself um in most of
[00:17:09.56 --> 00:17:14.36] our cultures you know mom and dad and
[00:17:12.08 --> 00:17:18.64] uncle they determine what you have to
[00:17:14.36 --> 00:17:20.60] study in life yes oh now family is only
[00:17:18.64 --> 00:17:24.32] engineering and perh maybe you want to
[00:17:20.60 --> 00:17:25.92] be a fashion designer and stuff so so
[00:17:24.32 --> 00:17:28.40] maybe it's also a time for you to
[00:17:25.92 --> 00:17:30.80] reflect and see okay now I'm doing this
[00:17:28.40 --> 00:17:34.12] maybe I it for Mommy and then after that
[00:17:30.80 --> 00:17:38.88] I maybe do something that I enjoy myself
[00:17:34.12 --> 00:17:41.16] so so it's part of yes yes I I think I
[00:17:38.88 --> 00:17:43.48] agree I agree because for the hard
[00:17:41.16 --> 00:17:45.96] skills we can always be you can always
[00:17:43.48 --> 00:17:47.92] learn I mean all the software the tools
[00:17:45.96 --> 00:17:50.32] you can learn it the soft skills are the
[00:17:47.92 --> 00:17:52.04] most challenging and the most important
[00:17:50.32 --> 00:17:55.36] and to be honest with you I don't know
[00:17:52.04 --> 00:17:59.80] if I've shared this um in
[00:17:55.36 --> 00:18:02.32] 20221 dor they did a survey Yeah by
[00:17:59.80 --> 00:18:05.40] asking different uh
[00:18:02.32 --> 00:18:08.04] companies um that hey what is the most
[00:18:05.40 --> 00:18:11.76] important qualities that you look for in
[00:18:08.04 --> 00:18:15.24] an employer employee and guess
[00:18:11.76 --> 00:18:17.68] what your experience and all those thing
[00:18:15.24 --> 00:18:19.68] your CV is not important the most
[00:18:17.68 --> 00:18:21.60] important is your personality when they
[00:18:19.68 --> 00:18:23.36] are hiring they are not hiring you of
[00:18:21.60 --> 00:18:26.16] course the skill set the heart skill is
[00:18:23.36 --> 00:18:29.12] important but they have to Envision you
[00:18:26.16 --> 00:18:31.36] see you in the team if the answer is no
[00:18:29.12 --> 00:18:34.72] then I'm sorry it doesn't matter how
[00:18:31.36 --> 00:18:37.36] good you are you know it's the group
[00:18:34.72 --> 00:18:38.36] dynamics you know it's it's it's very
[00:18:37.36 --> 00:18:41.24] very
[00:18:38.36 --> 00:18:42.96] important so I think my advice to every
[00:18:41.24 --> 00:18:46.64] International is to try to start
[00:18:42.96 --> 00:18:49.44] learning to cultivate a good um
[00:18:46.64 --> 00:18:53.32] personality by of course knowing themsel
[00:18:49.44 --> 00:18:56.76] and of course um going out there or even
[00:18:53.32 --> 00:18:58.52] asking friends hey tell me three things
[00:18:56.76 --> 00:19:00.48] three good things about me and three bad
[00:18:58.52 --> 00:19:02.28] things about me you can then evaluate
[00:19:00.48 --> 00:19:04.20] yourself and see what you need to work
[00:19:02.28 --> 00:19:06.24] on and I think this is something that we
[00:19:04.20 --> 00:19:08.88] don't do enough like when you said like
[00:19:06.24 --> 00:19:11.16] because now uh we come here in uh in
[00:19:08.88 --> 00:19:13.52] study in Finland we have also like a lot
[00:19:11.16 --> 00:19:16.20] of more time to reflect on ourselves cuz
[00:19:13.52 --> 00:19:18.68] we are separated from from our parents
[00:19:16.20 --> 00:19:21.24] our loved ones brothers sisters yes
[00:19:18.68 --> 00:19:23.56] definitely so it gives me also more time
[00:19:21.24 --> 00:19:25.36] on myself to work on myself so until
[00:19:23.56 --> 00:19:27.68] someone points out okay you you're good
[00:19:25.36 --> 00:19:30.80] at communicating and now I know like
[00:19:27.68 --> 00:19:33.40] Okay so this you have to more polish it
[00:19:30.80 --> 00:19:35.40] selfle self-reflection so this is really
[00:19:33.40 --> 00:19:37.32] what I can Rel and I think Finland is
[00:19:35.40 --> 00:19:39.20] also a really great place actually this
[00:19:37.32 --> 00:19:41.32] is why I actually tell the student that
[00:19:39.20 --> 00:19:44.60] um get the admission to Finland you
[00:19:41.32 --> 00:19:46.80] should be very very very happy exactly
[00:19:44.60 --> 00:19:49.36] because it's not by coincident it's an
[00:19:46.80 --> 00:19:51.84] opportunity for you to find yourself to
[00:19:49.36 --> 00:19:54.00] the less to the highest degree taking
[00:19:51.84 --> 00:19:55.92] the time to evaluate who you are what
[00:19:54.00 --> 00:19:58.40] you like what you don't like and
[00:19:55.92 --> 00:20:00.28] building your life career and when you
[00:19:58.40 --> 00:20:02.72] do that when you go back you become a
[00:20:00.28 --> 00:20:04.76] completely different person yes yes um
[00:20:02.72 --> 00:20:07.36] being in a collective Society is good
[00:20:04.76 --> 00:20:09.12] but it has a downside definitely that's
[00:20:07.36 --> 00:20:11.84] true that's true I I because you never
[00:20:09.12 --> 00:20:14.12] have that self time because always you
[00:20:11.84 --> 00:20:16.84] are around people and then you sleep you
[00:20:14.12 --> 00:20:19.24] wake up the same thing to you know so
[00:20:16.84 --> 00:20:21.20] being able to come to fand is a great
[00:20:19.24 --> 00:20:24.08] opportunity for you to find yourself as
[00:20:21.20 --> 00:20:26.44] well yes and this is why fan has become
[00:20:24.08 --> 00:20:29.16] the happiest country six years in a row
[00:20:26.44 --> 00:20:31.24] not because they are laughing hook on
[00:20:29.16 --> 00:20:34.36] the street and stuff no because things
[00:20:31.24 --> 00:20:37.44] are able to spend that self time go to
[00:20:34.36 --> 00:20:39.56] the forest take a long walk reflect on
[00:20:37.44 --> 00:20:42.08] yourself reflect on reflect on their
[00:20:39.56 --> 00:20:46.20] life and their future and stuff and then
[00:20:42.08 --> 00:20:48.64] they start working towards that so once
[00:20:46.20 --> 00:20:51.56] International here I mean you also need
[00:20:48.64 --> 00:20:54.24] to take advantage of that yeah I think
[00:20:51.56 --> 00:20:56.80] that is the main thing that we should uh
[00:20:54.24 --> 00:20:58.80] prepare ourselves when coming also to
[00:20:56.80 --> 00:21:00.28] Finland even other countries also Al
[00:20:58.80 --> 00:21:02.24] even but of course when you come to
[00:21:00.28 --> 00:21:04.64] Finland you get really this opportunity
[00:21:02.24 --> 00:21:07.24] to reflect so I really appreciate it
[00:21:04.64 --> 00:21:09.00] also and this this been to time I been
[00:21:07.24 --> 00:21:11.04] trying to reflect and like you said
[00:21:09.00 --> 00:21:13.56] talking to friends like okay what are my
[00:21:11.04 --> 00:21:16.52] strengths what is my weaknesses and I've
[00:21:13.56 --> 00:21:18.24] been trying to improve them slight a
[00:21:16.52 --> 00:21:19.76] little bit of course a long way to go
[00:21:18.24 --> 00:21:22.56] but
[00:21:19.76 --> 00:21:25.44] course the fact is not for you to
[00:21:22.56 --> 00:21:27.88] completely do that in a day more more
[00:21:25.44 --> 00:21:30.96] changes that you do maybe hey I don't
[00:21:27.88 --> 00:21:33.04] eat well maybe let me add one apple
[00:21:30.96 --> 00:21:36.60] every day and then you continue that oh
[00:21:33.04 --> 00:21:39.00] maybe I I sit a lot let me just take 15
[00:21:36.60 --> 00:21:41.00] minutes walk around the block and then
[00:21:39.00 --> 00:21:42.80] from there 15 to 20 minutes from 20
[00:21:41.00 --> 00:21:45.72] minutes to these small small things that
[00:21:42.80 --> 00:21:48.80] you end up doing you see the DraStic
[00:21:45.72 --> 00:21:52.00] change in your life so when we say that
[00:21:48.80 --> 00:21:53.76] you need to um improve yourself or have
[00:21:52.00 --> 00:21:55.92] self-reflection we are not saying that
[00:21:53.76 --> 00:21:57.48] you should do that and accomplish
[00:21:55.92 --> 00:21:59.76] everything at the same time be
[00:21:57.48 --> 00:22:02.68] disciplined in it and be persistent and
[00:21:59.76 --> 00:22:06.08] consistent in in in doing that yeah and
[00:22:02.68 --> 00:22:09.04] this small small will make you know
[00:22:06.08 --> 00:22:12.04] create that version of yourself that you
[00:22:09.04 --> 00:22:15.24] you look forward to a little drops of
[00:22:12.04 --> 00:22:17.24] water makes a mighty ocean oh yes so
[00:22:15.24 --> 00:22:20.24] this small small Improvement can lead to
[00:22:17.24 --> 00:22:22.88] very big change in your career and your
[00:22:20.24 --> 00:22:26.40] personal life as well 200%
[00:22:22.88 --> 00:22:28.52] agree 200% agree yeah and speaking of
[00:22:26.40 --> 00:22:31.16] like knowing ourself also like before
[00:22:28.52 --> 00:22:32.92] before coming into like Finland like
[00:22:31.16 --> 00:22:35.12] I've never I only thought about just
[00:22:32.92 --> 00:22:36.88] getting a job getting something like
[00:22:35.12 --> 00:22:39.64] work on like you know doing for a
[00:22:36.88 --> 00:22:41.96] company but I've never really uh thought
[00:22:39.64 --> 00:22:44.64] of like starting your own business or
[00:22:41.96 --> 00:22:46.64] your own interest and only after I come
[00:22:44.64 --> 00:22:48.32] here I started like thinking about it is
[00:22:46.64 --> 00:22:50.16] it a possibility because I've never
[00:22:48.32 --> 00:22:52.80] thought it was a possib there the
[00:22:50.16 --> 00:22:54.84] possibility are endless yeah yeah so you
[00:22:52.80 --> 00:22:57.72] just need to figure out what exactly you
[00:22:54.84 --> 00:23:00.00] want and then that's that's the first
[00:22:57.72 --> 00:23:02.32] Domino and then you can ask around hey
[00:23:00.00 --> 00:23:05.12] this is what I want how can I do that
[00:23:02.32 --> 00:23:07.20] and of course I as a career um coach or
[00:23:05.12 --> 00:23:10.36] a talent coach I like the word talent I
[00:23:07.20 --> 00:23:12.44] don't like career Talent yes as a talent
[00:23:10.36 --> 00:23:15.32] coach I'm able to then help you guide
[00:23:12.44 --> 00:23:18.12] you you know tell you where you should
[00:23:15.32 --> 00:23:21.56] go who you should talk to it's it's
[00:23:18.12 --> 00:23:23.80] makes I I enjoy having people asking
[00:23:21.56 --> 00:23:25.40] this kind of question that hey I want to
[00:23:23.80 --> 00:23:27.16] I can see that I'm good at this but I
[00:23:25.40 --> 00:23:29.92] don't know how to capitalize on it then
[00:23:27.16 --> 00:23:32.48] I can hey go to talk to this person or
[00:23:29.92 --> 00:23:35.40] read this book or listen to this podcast
[00:23:32.48 --> 00:23:37.08] or watch this YouTube clip or and then
[00:23:35.40 --> 00:23:39.76] from there you actually start building
[00:23:37.08 --> 00:23:43.72] something wonderful for yourself we have
[00:23:39.76 --> 00:23:45.88] the startup Cafe where SE that help
[00:23:43.72 --> 00:23:49.08] entrepreneurs establish their business
[00:23:45.88 --> 00:23:51.16] so there are tools here project going on
[00:23:49.08 --> 00:23:53.68] that can also help you as well so as
[00:23:51.16 --> 00:23:55.92] long as you look for it I'm I'm sure you
[00:23:53.68 --> 00:23:57.76] definitely find one yeah yeah that
[00:23:55.92 --> 00:24:00.48] that's true so it's like even if you
[00:23:57.76 --> 00:24:04.28] don't want to to find a job and someone
[00:24:00.48 --> 00:24:07.00] you can always start your own old and it
[00:24:04.28 --> 00:24:09.16] supports really I know a few a few um
[00:24:07.00 --> 00:24:12.04] people that graduated from VAMK that now
[00:24:09.16 --> 00:24:15.04] own their own businesses the fact is I I
[00:24:12.04 --> 00:24:17.04] I tell this to my student a lot that as
[00:24:15.04 --> 00:24:19.68] a student even though if you don't
[00:24:17.04 --> 00:24:21.28] remember any of the courses that you did
[00:24:19.68 --> 00:24:24.40] you should remember three things what
[00:24:21.28 --> 00:24:24.40] are the three
[00:24:24.92 --> 00:24:29.72] things as a student you should it's
[00:24:27.68 --> 00:24:33.20] three call things that you need to
[00:24:29.72 --> 00:24:36.20] remember first should be able to be to
[00:24:33.20 --> 00:24:37.88] learn how to communicate effectively
[00:24:36.20 --> 00:24:41.16] meaning that you should be able to tell
[00:24:37.88 --> 00:24:42.44] people what is going on inside you have
[00:24:41.16 --> 00:24:46.20] talk with
[00:24:42.44 --> 00:24:47.80] people and then so forth the second
[00:24:46.20 --> 00:24:49.72] thing is that you also need to be able
[00:24:47.80 --> 00:24:51.72] to write
[00:24:49.72 --> 00:24:54.72] effectively you know putting good
[00:24:51.72 --> 00:24:57.60] sentences together and all this and when
[00:24:54.72 --> 00:24:59.88] you combine these two it leads to the
[00:24:57.60 --> 00:25:01.96] third one which she back to the
[00:24:59.88 --> 00:25:04.80] entrepreneurship is the ability to
[00:25:01.96 --> 00:25:06.72] generate ideas because when you have an
[00:25:04.80 --> 00:25:09.36] idea you should be able to what to
[00:25:06.72 --> 00:25:10.52] communicate it and also to be able to
[00:25:09.36 --> 00:25:13.96] write it
[00:25:10.52 --> 00:25:15.88] down so this is why actually we allow
[00:25:13.96 --> 00:25:17.96] the student to write thesis and when you
[00:25:15.88 --> 00:25:20.44] look at thesis it covers all these three
[00:25:17.96 --> 00:25:22.92] areas you have to write you have to
[00:25:20.44 --> 00:25:24.48] present and your writing is to come up
[00:25:22.92 --> 00:25:26.64] you need to come up with some idea
[00:25:24.48 --> 00:25:28.64] either solve a problem or what improve
[00:25:26.64 --> 00:25:31.44] it if you have a business idea here you
[00:25:28.64 --> 00:25:33.08] are able to put it on black and white
[00:25:31.44 --> 00:25:35.92] and then you're able to communicate it
[00:25:33.08 --> 00:25:38.76] to Pro probably a future investor or
[00:25:35.92 --> 00:25:41.28] someone who can mentor you or help you
[00:25:38.76 --> 00:25:44.88] so this is why at least as a student
[00:25:41.28 --> 00:25:46.72] strive to cover these three areas and
[00:25:44.88 --> 00:25:50.08] for you to generate ideas you need to
[00:25:46.72 --> 00:25:52.04] have the time to think self-reflection
[00:25:50.08 --> 00:25:54.28] self-reflection self time you see how
[00:25:52.04 --> 00:25:56.48] all this things related and connected
[00:25:54.28 --> 00:26:00.24] yes I'm slowly it's all in a bigger
[00:25:56.48 --> 00:26:00.24] picture everything affects
[00:26:01.20 --> 00:26:05.08] we understand that I think this is
[00:26:03.36 --> 00:26:08.76] equally
[00:26:05.08 --> 00:26:10.92] important yes yes yeah I will also
[00:26:08.76 --> 00:26:13.40] remember this to myself as well and of
[00:26:10.92 --> 00:26:16.80] course also to all our current students
[00:26:13.40 --> 00:26:19.72] and also uh for all the upcoming and uh
[00:26:16.80 --> 00:26:22.96] International students as well so yeah
[00:26:19.72 --> 00:26:25.88] but do you have any like suggestions or
[00:26:22.96 --> 00:26:28.72] advice to people coming to the new uh
[00:26:25.88 --> 00:26:33.52] International students I would I would
[00:26:28.72 --> 00:26:38.20] say if um please um coming to Finland is
[00:26:33.52 --> 00:26:41.56] extremely important for you to do um
[00:26:38.20 --> 00:26:43.72] your background work uh once you get the
[00:26:41.56 --> 00:26:47.36] admission go online and start reading
[00:26:43.72 --> 00:26:50.00] about the country for proper
[00:26:47.36 --> 00:26:51.80] orientation um because some of the
[00:26:50.00 --> 00:26:54.72] problem that something happen is the
[00:26:51.80 --> 00:26:56.44] level of expectation you know oh I'm
[00:26:54.72 --> 00:26:58.80] going to abroad and they have all this
[00:26:56.44 --> 00:27:01.52] fancy expectation that
[00:26:58.80 --> 00:27:03.72] everything will be yes it will happen
[00:27:01.52 --> 00:27:06.76] but it's going to take time so you need
[00:27:03.72 --> 00:27:10.20] to at least consciously and subconscious
[00:27:06.76 --> 00:27:13.04] prepare yourself that have a plan that
[00:27:10.20 --> 00:27:15.40] in case this doesn't work out I move on
[00:27:13.04 --> 00:27:18.64] to this in case this doesn't work out I
[00:27:15.40 --> 00:27:20.28] move up to this um me being here I've
[00:27:18.64 --> 00:27:22.88] been through all those challenges I've
[00:27:20.28 --> 00:27:26.44] been in the bottom and now I feel like
[00:27:22.88 --> 00:27:29.32] I'm flying now so everything we do is to
[00:27:26.44 --> 00:27:32.48] some extent connected in a way so have a
[00:27:29.32 --> 00:27:36.04] proper orientation find someone here
[00:27:32.48 --> 00:27:38.24] that you can ask proper information from
[00:27:36.04 --> 00:27:42.44] like you like me of
[00:27:38.24 --> 00:27:44.84] course okay or or anybody that's already
[00:27:42.44 --> 00:27:47.76] here that can help you so for me you can
[00:27:44.84 --> 00:27:52.44] also get in touch with me um through
[00:27:47.76 --> 00:27:55.20] Instagram @VAMK_talentcoach.
[00:27:52.44 --> 00:27:57.64] So you can reach out already I have some
[00:27:55.20 --> 00:27:59.80] students that already ask about admission and
[00:27:57.64 --> 00:28:01.76] they asking a lot of question and I
[00:27:59.80 --> 00:28:04.24] support them reply them tell them what
[00:28:01.76 --> 00:28:05.84] to do send them links and stuff that
[00:28:04.24 --> 00:28:09.68] they have to follow and and and and
[00:28:05.84 --> 00:28:12.12] things so I think this is um very very
[00:28:09.68 --> 00:28:14.28] important uh when it comes to the career
[00:28:12.12 --> 00:28:17.12] something just came to my mind now that
[00:28:14.28 --> 00:28:20.36] uh if you have any form of previous
[00:28:17.12 --> 00:28:22.84] experience I think um don't do not
[00:28:20.36 --> 00:28:25.12] disregard it don't think that it is not
[00:28:22.84 --> 00:28:28.32] important as I said everything is
[00:28:25.12 --> 00:28:29.72] connected to everything um some people
[00:28:28.32 --> 00:28:31.92] for instance even some of the student
[00:28:29.72 --> 00:28:34.60] that we have here that are doing uh
[00:28:31.92 --> 00:28:37.28] cleaning but they are studying to be um
[00:28:34.60 --> 00:28:39.00] a med system engineer when you ask them
[00:28:37.28 --> 00:28:41.84] do you think the cleaning you are doing
[00:28:39.00 --> 00:28:43.84] is connected to being an engineer and
[00:28:41.84 --> 00:28:46.36] they said no I said are you kidding me
[00:28:43.84 --> 00:28:49.44] really and then we do small exercise
[00:28:46.36 --> 00:28:51.12] that okay now list all the qualities all
[00:28:49.44 --> 00:28:52.76] the competence that you are gaining from
[00:28:51.12 --> 00:28:55.12] the cleaning and then they list it and
[00:28:52.76 --> 00:28:57.04] then they realize that oops this are the
[00:28:55.12 --> 00:28:59.96] same thing I'm actually going to
[00:28:57.04 --> 00:29:01.84] do are the same soft skills the only
[00:28:59.96 --> 00:29:05.36] difference is that in cleaning I'm using
[00:29:01.84 --> 00:29:08.72] a mop in uh Computer Engineering I'm
[00:29:05.36 --> 00:29:10.56] using a laptop so the tool are only
[00:29:08.72 --> 00:29:13.32] different but then the soft skills are
[00:29:10.56 --> 00:29:14.28] all the same so they should remind
[00:29:13.32 --> 00:29:16.36] themselves that whatever they are
[00:29:14.28 --> 00:29:19.28] learning or whatever theyve learn is
[00:29:16.36 --> 00:29:21.32] equally um important and and and and
[00:29:19.28 --> 00:29:23.28] it's good so that's one advice that they
[00:29:21.32 --> 00:29:25.92] shouldn't see that what they are doing
[00:29:23.28 --> 00:29:28.72] would not help them but whatever
[00:29:25.92 --> 00:29:31.60] experience they have would equally um
[00:29:28.72 --> 00:29:35.00] influence their career here in in
[00:29:31.60 --> 00:29:36.88] Finland and also just the Orient proper
[00:29:35.00 --> 00:29:39.60] orientation making sure that you have
[00:29:36.88 --> 00:29:41.28] the right information the Right facts
[00:29:39.60 --> 00:29:43.64] I'm going online one thing I like about
[00:29:41.28 --> 00:29:46.24] Finland is that we are very digitized
[00:29:43.64 --> 00:29:48.44] everything you want to know is online so
[00:29:46.24 --> 00:29:49.80] you can always and if you have
[00:29:48.44 --> 00:29:51.68] difficulties understanding you can
[00:29:49.80 --> 00:29:54.28] always call someone or email someone and
[00:29:51.68 --> 00:29:57.12] they will always get back to you yeah as
[00:29:54.28 --> 00:30:00.36] you know fand we are really um our
[00:29:57.12 --> 00:30:02.64] population is getting a bit old so for
[00:30:00.36 --> 00:30:04.96] that reason we definitely do need an
[00:30:02.64 --> 00:30:07.36] international here and one way to get in
[00:30:04.96 --> 00:30:09.04] here is the through the school and
[00:30:07.36 --> 00:30:12.24] making something good out of yourself
[00:30:09.04 --> 00:30:15.24] and the future becomes bright so yes
[00:30:12.24 --> 00:30:17.08] that's true yeah yes okay thank you so
[00:30:15.24 --> 00:30:19.08] much today it's a really great
[00:30:17.08 --> 00:30:21.44] discussion and of course time to for
[00:30:19.08 --> 00:30:23.80] myself to learn a lot also and also for
[00:30:21.44 --> 00:30:26.88] all the international students both the
[00:30:23.80 --> 00:30:28.60] existing and also the upcoming ones so
[00:30:26.88 --> 00:30:31.52] it has been a really great thank you
[00:30:28.60 --> 00:30:33.24] very much for the opportunity and I hope
