Why audit and what will be audited?

An audit is a means to evaluate the functionality of our quality system and to show our willingness for continuous enhancement of activities. The FINEEC audit model complies with European principles and recommendations for quality management (ESG) to which Finland is also committed.

The audit target is the quality system at VAMK but education and the impact of the HEI, manifested as societal renewal and significant RDI activities are in the lead role

What does the audit comprise?

To get a conception of the activities at VAMK we will conduct a self-assessment in accordance with the audit model. The self- assessment is a 40-page document, which will be written on the digital audit plat-form where the auditors also write their comments. Thus, the self-assessment and the auditors’ assessment together form the audit report.

In the self-assessment, we can refer to the material available on our web site, with which we can complement the aspects presented in the self-assessment. The auditors will have an access to the VAMK Intra, which means that they can observe our activities in versatile ways.
In addition to the self-assessment, we auditors will receive the organisational chart, strategy, description of the quality system, links to the curricula, RPL instructions and equality plan.
The self-assessment material must be finished, translated and uploaded to the audit platform by 15 December 2020.

During the audit visit, the audit team will interview VAMK staff, stakeholders and students extensively. The purpose of the interviews is to verify and ensure the observations made based on the audit material. The dates of the audit visit are 23 – 24 March 2021

Self-assessment areas

The self-assessment consists of five areas:

  1. HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION (HEI) CREATES COMPETENCE
This area covers the planning, implementation as well as evaluation and enhancement of education.
  2. HEI PROMOTES IMPACT AND RENEWAL
This refers to VAMK’s management of societal engagement and impact, RDI activities and organisational culture that supports innovation.
  3. HEI ENHANCES QUALITY AND WELL-BEING
Here we will assess how the quality system is used in strategic management, how we support competence development and well-being of the staff and how our quality system works and how we develop it.
  4. HEI AS A LEARNING ORGANISATION
In this audit model, the HEI has been asked to describe an area, central to its profile or strategy, which it wishes to enhance. VAMK’s choice is Co-operation with working life.
  5. DESCRIPTION OF BENCHLEARNING
In addition, a benchlearning target that the HEI can decide themselves has been added to the audit. The theme of VAMK’s benchlearning target is “Efficient thesis writing process for timely graduation”. Our benchlearning partner is Yrkeshögskola Novia.
